Helpers

Dave and Kerry vom Torberg

Dave Blank

Training director, obedience coach and helper

Dave has been involved in schutzhund since approximately 1980 when he joined his first club. Almost immediatley he discovered that in order to get the results he desired with his dogs, he'd have to learn to be a helper. By keeping an open mind, he continues to learn... sometimes by trial and error, and sometimes from the many other talented helpers in our area. He titled his first dog in 1983. In 1986, he placed second in the Mid-Central Regional Championships with Jmm vom Fichtenschlag. Later that same year, Dave and Jmm placed second at the USA SchH 3 Nationals. In 1988, he earned the Schutzhund USA Gold Sports Medal. Over the years, Dave has titled several other dogs and has been President and/or Training Director of several clubs. He now holds both of those positions at StateLine Schutzhund Club and Working Dog Association, which he co-founded in 2001. Before doing so, he took a few years off to get married (to Kathy), raise a child (McKenzie), and build a house. After returing to schutzhund, Dave has been very involved in the sport titling his dogs Bennie von der Dreieck (SchH3, KKL2a, SG rated), Dennis von den Kosaken (SchH2, KKL1a, V rated) and his most recent dog, Fero von den Kosaken (SchH3, KKL2a, SG rated). He has participated in many seminars and has been the helper at numerous trials and shows. In 2001, he was selected as one of two helpers for the 2001 GSDCA-WDA Universal Sieger show where he did a fantastic job! He has been a fixture at all StateLine trials and breed surveys, always providing fair and consistent work.

He and his wife Kathy own vom Dreieck German Shepherds.
